I am Candice Bernes, a Unified Mindfulness teacher/trainer and Conscious Connected Breathwork practitioner residing in Ottawa, Canada, and Lead Instructor for the Unified Mindfulness Pathways international coaching program. I offer one-on-one and group coaching locally and online, to individuals and organizations. I guide 4-hour mindfulness practices regularly for Shinzen’s Home Practice Program (a virtual weekend retreat offered online), and I teach mindfulness weekly by donation for various communities across Ottawa. I am presently developing a series of collaborative mindfulness videos, in both English and Dari, to support Afghan refugees. I am part of the Seeds Meditation Community and offer donation-based twice-weekly mindfulness guidance as part of their online platform.
My background includes Trauma Recovery studies in Ottawa, Canada, Raw Vegan chef studies in New York City, USA, Breathwork facilitation with Sacred Breath Academy in North Carolina, USA, and Mindfulness studies with Unified Mindfulness (the teachings of Shinzen), an international organization. My personal practice began at 8 years old and spans 46 years of combined informal and formal practice, including Shikantaza, Conscious Connected Breathwork, and Vipassana.
My personal meditation practice is often through food preparation. As previous owner and chef of Herbivore at the Door and Sweetgrass Catering, I continue to be in service through regular donations of fruit platters to a local women’s shelter (I have included a few pictures below for your enjoyment!)
